Crowns
If your teeth are discoloured and poorly shaped, or have been damaged by decay, crowns are an ideal solution. Comprised of either porcelain, ceramic or metal alloys, crowns provide complete coverage, as well as restore strength, shape and appearance.
The Treatment Process
Before we begin treatment, our experienced and professional dental team will first discuss the process and answer any questions you may have for your complete ease of mind. We will then need to ensure that what remains of your tooth is in the best condition possible before fitting your crown. This may include endodontic or root canal treatment if the cavity is deep and reaches the pulp.
We will start by filing down your tooth to remove a layer of the enamel. Impressions of the prepared tooth are taken, and the shade of the natural teeth is recorded, which ensures that your porcelain crown is made to fit perfectly. We will then create a temporary crown to protect your tooth between appointments and, when ready, this temporary crown is removed and the new permanent one fixed in place using a strong dental cement.
Bridges
If you have one or more missing teeth, bridges are a natural looking and attractive way to restore your smile and regain full functionality. Comprising of porcelain and precious metals, bridges consist of two crowns which are positioned either side of a false tooth and slot over the teeth adjacent to a gap. As well as being fixed over natural teeth, bridges can also be supported by dental implants.
The Treatment Process
First, we will prepare the adjacent teeth by removing a layer of enamel to ensure that the crowns can be comfortably accommodated. We’ll then take impressions of your teeth and create your customised bridge. After the bridge has been produced in a laboratory, it is then fixed permanently into position with dental cement.
