Are you looking to rebuild your smile in a natural looking way? If so, Southfield Dental can offer porcelain crowns, veneers and onlays to give you a stunning looking smile that you can be proud of.
Porcelain Crowns
If your tooth is broken or severely damaged by decay, it may not be strong enough to support a filling. If so, you’ll need a crown, which is a tooth-shaped cover that is placed over your damaged tooth. A crown provides complete coverage, as well as restores strength, shape and appearance.

The Treatment Process
Before we begin treatment, our experienced and professional dental team will first discuss the process and answer any questions you may have for your complete ease of mind. We will then need to ensure that what remains of your tooth is in the best condition possible before fitting your crown. This may include endodontic or root canal treatment if the cavity is deep and reaches the pulp.
We will then file down your tooth to remove a layer of the enamel. Impressions of the prepared tooth are taken, and the shade of the natural teeth is recorded, which ensures that your porcelain crown is made to fit perfectly. We will then create a temporary crown to protect your tooth between appointments and, when ready, this temporary crown is removed and the new permanent one fixed in place with strong dental cement.

Porcelain Veneers
If your teeth are discoloured, irregularly shaped or damaged, our porcelain veneers are an ideal way to get you smiling again. A veneer is a thin tooth coloured shell, which is placed on the front of your tooth to create a natural and attractive effect. First, we will remove a thin layer of enamel from the tooth in question, which will allow your veneers to sit correctly.
We’ll then take an impression and make a note of the shade of your tooth, which is sent to a laboratory to create veneers to suit your exact requirements. The veneer is then bonded to your teeth using resin cement.
Porcelain Onlays
If there is extensive damage to your teeth which can’t be treated with a regular filling, our porcelain onlays are the perfect solution. More durable and long-lasting than traditional fillings, onlays are usually placed on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth and can repair large areas on the front teeth.
First, the affected tooth is prepared by removing areas of decay or old fillings. We’ll then take an impression to create an onlay which matches the affected area exactly, and a temporary onlay will then be fitted to protect the prepared cavity. When ready, the onlay is checked for fit and comfort, and then fixed permanently in place with a robust dental adhesive.
Benefits
In addition to restoring your teeth back to their full functionality, porcelain crowns, veneers and onlays can also improve eating, speaking and your bite, as well as the contours of your face.
